Composting systems
Greenstar’s composting facilities use a variety of composting
technologies and facilities for processing organic materials.
There are different forms of composting systems available to control and/or optimise compost production by manipulating temperature, oxygen and moisture during composting.
These include :
- Windrow systems have in the past often been the predominant form of composting in Ireland, particularly for garden organics. This system of composting involves aeration of horizontally extended piles formed by a front-end loader or windrow turner
- In-vessel composting systems are systems of composting involving use of an enclosed chamber or vessel in which (in most cases) the composting process is controlled by regulating the rate of mechanical aeration.
Greenstar is continuously researching all composting technologies and will apply appropriate technologies to appropriate waste streams.
We have established a network of composting facilities across Ireland including our facility in Silliott Hill in County Kildare.
