Neil Parkinson Appointed New Chief Executive of Greenstar

Steve Cowman to become CEO of NTR solar energy company

Greenstar, Ireland's largest waste management company, has today (5 June 2008) announced the appointment of Neil Parkinson as Chief Executive. Formerly Chief Executive of Irish Broadband, Neil succeeds Steve Cowman, who is to become Chief Executive of US-based solar business Stirling Energy Systems, in which NTR recently acquired a controlling interest.

Neil will take up the position with Greenstar in mid-July. Neil has worked within the NTR Group since 2006 and, prior to Irish Broadband, held the positions of Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer and Chairman of Esat Group.

Greenstar was established by NTR in 1999 and has grown to become Ireland's largest waste management company with a turnover of €170 million in 2007. Greenstar has invested €275 million in infrastructural development since its inception and in February 2006 secured debt re-financing of €200 million to underpin the ongoing growth and development of the company. Greenstar recently targeted a near trebling of growth to €412 million by 2012 and expects to invest €550 million in organic growth and infrastructural development on an all-island basis over this time period.

Commenting, Mr Cowman said: "Both the waste industry and Greenstar have evolved significantly over the past five years. Today, waste management is an increasingly sophisticated and technologically advanced industry and continues to be a key concern of businesses, householders and government alike. It has been my privilege to lead Greenstar's extremely experienced and professional management team and I am fully confident that the company will continue to be at the forefront of the industry."

Mr Parkinson said: "Greenstar is a tremendous success story and has set the standard for waste management in Ireland as well as contributing to the national debate on how Ireland can best manage its waste needs. The company has very ambitious growth and investment plans which reflect its inherent dynamism. Its commitment to the continued investment in alternative technologies and infrastructural development offer both the company and Ireland significant opportunity. I'm excited to be joining the company, look forward to helping it achieve its significant expansion plans and wish Steve every success in the US."
